Fly Your Flag for Our Anniversary?

We are delighted to announce that today we are launching, in partnership with Eyemouth High School and Eyemouth & District Rotary, an exciting design competition for P6-S1 pupils from Eyemouth High School and surrounding primary schools. As 2026 is the 10th anniversary year of St Abbs Independent Lifeboat, entrants to this competition are being asked to design a flag that will be flown above the St Abbs Lifeboat Station throughout the summer months and over the period of the Lifeboat’s anniversary date in September 2026. The flag will then be framed and kept as part of the lifeboat’s memorabilia.

Flag bunting using the winning design will also be produced to decorate the harbour over the same period, along with small flags to hopefully go in the cafes, the visitor centre, the art gallery and the Lifeboat shop.

The competition is sponsored by TransPennine Express Trains who have very kindly donated the prizes of £50 for first place, and £25 each for two runners up. The first, second and third place designs will also be printed onto personal Lifeboat T-shirts for the winners as a unique souvenir and a thank you for entering the competition.

In launching the competition, Sarah Martin, Principal Teacher in Social Subjects at Eyemouth High School, said “We are always grateful for the untiring work of Eyemouth and District Rotary who have really embraced this idea and helped to make it happen. The vision of celebratory bunting and flags flying throughout the village of St Abbs for the Lifeboat’s 10th anniversary is a lovely one. We are looking forward to seeing how wonderfully creative our local young people can be and hope that they very much enjoy the design challenge”
