We are really proud to announce that we have received a £3,000 grant from Eyemouth High School as part of their Youth Philanthropy Initiative. This initiative is a powerful active citizenship programme, empowering young people to make a difference in their communities while developing a range of skills. Since it was introduced in Scotland in 2008 by The Wood Foundation, it has engaged more than 270,000 young people who have taken responsibility for £6M of charitable giving. Each school in the programme is responsible for directing a grant of £3000 to a local charity championed by its students through a unique programme of teamwork, research and competition. We were invited to Eyemouth High School, along with numerous other local charities, where we gave presentations, participated in Question and Answer sessions and responded to students research. The students themselves discussed, debated and made presentations as to which charities would be gifted the grant. Our very grateful thanks go to Andrius who championed us as his chosen charity and produced exceptional research about our work and our intended use of the grant to purchase a paediatric manikin. Andrius has now visited the Lifeboat Station and we were delighted to show him around and give him a taste of being a crew member. Training on a paediatric manikin will give the crew an invaluable and very different experience of medically assisting a young person. It is something that our medical advisors will assist us with to ensure that we have the correct equipment and optimal training.
