It is incredibly exciting news that our online shop is now live and you can purchase lots of our most popular merchandise and continue to support the lifeboat from the comfort of your own home. The online shop is part of our recently updated website and allows you to buy our adult and children’s clothing, toys, a range of accessories, household items and New Asgard merchandise. Online shopping is something that we have aspired to for some time, working alongside our fantastic local supplier, Dunbar T-Shirt Shop.
On 19th June 2015 we posted a news item here on our website stating that “our campaign T-Shirts are proving popular”. At that time, distribution was coordinated from the kitchen of Rock House and records were kept with pen and paper. Eventually, as the sale of merchandise gathered momentum, we moved into a chilly but effective trailer on the harbour side until, in the summer of 2019 we opened our wonderful little shop at the top of the slip in the harbour. During these eight years the iconic logo on our merchandise has changed from “Save St Abbs Lifeboat” to “Support St Abbs Lifeboat” but the popularity of our stock has never diminished. Still working with Dunbar T-shirt Shop, we have added to our ranges considerably over the years, supplementing the ever popular T-shirts with special “summer gala editions” of different colours and adding hoodies, aprons, hats, buffs, hooded blankets and even pyjamas and boxer shorts to our collections.
Every year we welcome and are grateful to the hundreds of visitors who cross the threshold into our shop and support the lifeboat so faithfully. However we have also listened to those of you who have returned home and are really keen to buy more items for family or friends and wish to do so online. It’s a big step forward for us as Helen Gibson, our volunteer retail manager, explains “Our team of dedicated volunteers have all been aware that there is a demand for us to have an online presence. We open the shop in the harbour three days a week from Easter to the end of October and then two days a week in November. We all love working there as it’s great to have the personal connection with our supporters. However, the online shop will help us reach new markets and enable everyone to buy our merchandise and support the lifeboat irrespective of where they live. We are really grateful to Steven Hill at Dunbar T-Shirt Shop for the incredible amount of work he has done to make this online opportunity happen – without him it would not be possible.
