Lifeboat crews are obviously expected to help maintain as well as crew our independent Lifeboat. July has been a busy month for maintenance with the boat taken out of the water and off-service today for various bits of mechanical work. The crew also scrubbed the whole structure until it was gleaming like new. Earlier in June, Marine Specialised Technology, the company who manufactured the boat, had visited to service our vital self-righting system and the engineer had been extremely impressed with our standards of care and the overall condition of the boat. We have also recently replaced the jockey seats which protect the crew from impact injury. All this comes at quite a high price obviously, but it will hopefully pay off in the long run as the boat will maybe not require the 10 year refit and refurbishment that we have financially planned for.
